My future? I’m under contract at Newcastle, I’m very happy. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with Financial Fair Play, but I can say I’m very happy.

It’s nice to see my name linked with big clubs, it means I’m doing my job well… but I’m not worried — I’m happy at Newcastle. We will see what happens.

Thelin's game plan will work well in Scotland

Elfsborg winger Arber Zeneli reckons Jimmy Thelin's style of play will be effective at Aberdeen.

Thelin was officially named as the news Dons boss on Monday and will get to work at Pittodrie once he has returned from a family holday. Kosovo international Zeneli has risen through the ranks at Elfsborg and was a key cog in Thelin's side that missed out on the Swedish league title by virtue of goal difference last year.

The player is confident that his old boss' structured approach at both ends of the pitch will be successful in the Premiership. In an interview with The Press and Journal, he said:

Elfsborg are strong at attacking in the transitions with fast players which is Jimmy’s signature.

That can work well in Scotland. The key to it is a good defence and then when we play have the confidence in the game plan.

As an attacker you want to score as many goals as possible but sometimes you don’t have the luck. You just have to believe in yourself and in the tactics.

And that self-belief is what Jimmy helps with players.

Gio compares Besiktas and Rangers 'culture'

Gio van Bronckhorst has insisted he sees similarities between Rangers and new club Besiktas after returning to management.

Van Bronckhorst has been out of work since leaving Ibrox in November 2022 after a year in the dugout. During his stint he left the club to Scottish Cup victory and the Europa League final - as well as a navigating the Champions League playoff rounds to seal a group stage return.

However, when he left the hot seat the Light Blues were nine points behind Premiership leaders Celtic and had returned the worst group stage performance in the history of the Champions League.

But the Dutch manager is ready to kickstart his career and told De Telegraaf:

A lot has happened in the past year and a half, but I only wanted to talk if I really liked something and got energy from it. Besiktas is such a club in every respect. A large following, a great stadium and in a city where they are very football crazy. This is really the type of club that I have always been involved with. That is also what I like about it. Feyenoord, Rangers FC, Arsenal, Barcelona, all clubs with the same image and culture. They play at the top and for the prizes.

van Bronckhorst appointment assessed

Former Netherlands star Ryan Babel says Giovanni van Bronckhorst is in for a difficult summer after landing the Besiktas job, but reckons that he will be able to turn the Turkish side into title contenders over time.

van Bronckhorst has returned to management for the first time being sacked by Rangers in October 2022, and ex winger Babel, who scored 26 goals in 89 matches for Besitkas between 2016 and 2019, has backed his compatriot to make the club a force to be reckoned with in the Turkish Super League.

Speaking to Aksam Spor, he said:

Is the championship a realistic goal for Van Bronckhorst? It's a good question. A lot depends on the resources available. At the moment, Beşiktaş is not very strong financially. I'm afraid the club will have to sell players to find money. The club has had a few difficult years, but they are building a new squad and there are great talents in the squad.

Still, it's a great club to be a manager in. The stadium is in the heart of Istanbul, the fans are insanely fanatic and this is often used as a great home advantage. If Gio can get off to a good start, he will get the fans behind him and then Beşiktaş will become a serious championship candidate. will come.

BREAKING! Hayes leaves the Dons

Jonny Hayes has officially left Aberdeen on a free transfer.

And the 36-year-old says it's been an honour and a privilege.

Hayes made more than 350 appearances for the club across two spells but has now officially left after his contract expired.

And he paid tribute to the Dons in a lengthy tribute on the club website.

It’s been a privilege to represent this fantastic club. I’ve been fortunate to have played in many important games, and of course, play my part in delivering a trophy for the fans, who have supported me incredibly throughout the years. I’ve always given my best, both on and off the field, and tried to uphold the values of Aberdeen FC.

I also need to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to begin my coaching journey within the Youth Academy. The experience has been hugely rewarding seeing the progress, development and success of the Academy as a whole over the last few years.

Although development is always a priority, being involved with the Under 16’s winning their CAS League last year, along with the current Under 16’s delivering success in the league and cup this year, demonstrates there is some top talent coming through to compliment the successful Under 18’s squad.

The future is bright for the club and although I won’t be playing at Pittodrie anymore, I’ll always be a supporter of the club and city and I wish everyone associated with AFC all the very best going forward.

Ramsay wants to answer critics

Scotland cap Calvin Ramsay insists he is desperate to prove his doubters wrong after joining Wigan on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool.

The 20-year-old’s career has stagnated since moving to Anfield from Aberdeen in a deal worth up to £8 million two years ago.

The right-back has been plagued by injury problems south of the border and is still yet to make his league debut for the Reds.

Ramsay spent time on loan at Preston and Bolton last term but only managed a total of six appearances across both stints. And Ramsay reckons he can get his career back on track under fellow Scot Shaun Maloney at the League One side.

I am over the moon. It happened quickly and I met the manager about two weeks ago. I had a really good conversation, and there was an instant connection. I’m excited for the start of the season.

When I was driving to the training ground, there was a real excitement, and I am hungry to get going and show everyone what I can do. Hopefully, I can prove a few people wrong who have been doubting me. It’s a good opportunity at a good club, and I am raring to go.

Ramsay knows all about Maloney as a player having cheered the former Scotland forward on as a fan and is now relishing working under him.

Ramsay, whose only Scotland outing to date came in the November 2022 friendly defeat to Turkey, added:

We’re from the same country, and I grew up watching him as a player. After that conversation two weeks ago, I felt really good and knew I was going to be a Wigan player. He’s seen what I can do, which is something that you need from your manager. It’s important that he trusts you and knows what you are capable of. Hopefully, I can repay him by doing well.

Hagi offski?

Ianis Hagi has revealed he's told his agents to find the 'right team and manager' for him as he all but confirmed he will be leaving Rangers.

Hagi made 146 appearances in total after an initial loan spell and scored 24 goals but his progress was hampered by a knee injury that kept him out for a year. And Hagi appears resigned to leaving Ibrox after revealing he's left it to his agents to sort his future while on international duty.

'Edouard back to Celtic? No thanks'

That's how Simon Donnelly views it as the former Parkhead striker believes Edouard has 'had his time' at Celtic.

The French striker is out of favour at Crystal Palace and fans have been willing a second spell into existence after Brendan Rodgers rocket-launched his career the first time around.

But Donnelly doesn't believe a move to bring him back would work out.

No, because I think he has had his time. I would look elsewhere. When you revisit it, does it work? I don’t know. He had his time.

You Kahn't keep doing it

Bayern Munich goalkeeping legend Oliver Kahn has warned Manuel Neuer he will have to be selective with his games to ensure he prolongs his career.

Neuer could line up against Scotland in his club stadium, the Allianz Arena, in the Euro 2024 opener. He suffered a double leg break during a skiing holiday after the last World Cup but recovered to play 33 games in all competitions for Bayern last season and is back in the international fold. But Kahn had some advice for the 38-year-old.

At this age, it is no longer possible to play 50 to 60 games per season at the highest level. At some point, it’s about finding the right moment to leave. Getting the timing right here is just as demanding as delivering world-class performances over the years.

BREAKING! Gardiner OUT at Caley

Under-fire Inverness CEO Scot Gardiner has resigned - but will see out his notice period at the club.

Gardiner has come under extreme criticism from fans who largely want him gone after their relegation to League One. Yesterday, the club issued a statement announcing they are putting plans in place for administration if they can't find new investment in the foreseeable.

A U-turn on their move to train in Fife was welcomed but it's too little, too late for many fans who fear the very worst for a club who were in the Scottish Cup Final as recently as 2023.

The latest bombshell comes from board member Graeme Bennett who says Gardiner continues to do 'everything he can' for the club.

Listen, Scot has had a fair bit of grief and stress through the relegation process but we need to stick together and find a way out of this – everybody has to pull together for the sake of the club.

Scot Gardiner has resigned but I have asked to help us out and he was good today at a meeting of the staff, he is working his notice and doing everything he can for Caley Thistle.

Lukaku hints at Saudi move

Could Romelu Lukaku be on his way to Saudi Arabia this summer? He certainly wouldn't say no.

The Belgian striker is still contracted to Chelsea and his future is up in the air after firing in 21 goals for Roma last season.

He's off to the Euros with Belgium and that's his focus in the meantime. But after that, what would he say to a move to Saudi?

Saudi Arabia wouldn't stop me. The level will only rise there. To a much higher level than many people think. More and more footballers will tend to play there. The infrastructure needs to be even better, but all the major European clubs know: 'Saudi Arabia is coming'.

Easton's phone was BURNING

Dylan Easton is at Raith Rovers to stay - but not for the want of trying by other clubs.

The 30-year-old penned a new two-year deal at Stark's Park after a season that saw him net 12 goals in 47 appearances as one of the driving forces in Ian Murray's impressive side.

He was linked with Dundee and others and speaking to The Courier, he says his phone was on fire as his side battled for promotion.

But staying in Kirkcaldy was a no-brainer in the end.

The stage I am in my career at the moment, I wanted to hold off and see what was best for me and my family. There was a lot of interest, there were quite a few clubs. My phone sort of burned up the week after the play-offs.

I sat back and had time to reflect, and I spoke with my partner and we looked at all the pros and cons. The most I’ve probably ever enjoyed my football, really, is that season there with Raith.

I feel at home there. I’ve got a really good relationship with the staff, I’ve obviously had the manager for a few seasons now, and I’ve built a good relationship with the fans as well. With all that, it was kind of a no-brainer to be honest. I had one chat with my missus and then messaged the gaffer and John Potter and said, ‘c’mon, let’s get it signed’.

Kelleher given fighting chance - Celtic transfer bulletin

Celtic have been given every chance of landing Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer - after stressing his desire to be number one wherever he plays next season.

The Ireland shotstopper has played second fiddle to Alisson at Anfield but played plenty of football last season due to the Brazilian's injury problems. His links with Celtic have never really gone away and while he'd likely be an expensive option, he'd be the sort of high-calibre and quality addition Brendan Rodgers is looking for to replace Joe Hart.

Smith ready for new challenge

Hamilton hero Lewis Smith says there's no hard feelings at Accies - he just wanted a new challenge at Livingston.

Winger Smith leaves New Douglas Park after 15 years in Lanarkshire and will look to help David Martindale's team bounce straight back to the Premiership.

And speaking to The Courier about his move, he reckons it came about at the right time - even if it wasn't an easy choice to make.

It’s a new challenge. It was really difficult to leave, and it was a decision I took a lot of time over, because it was tough for me and my family, but I think it probably came at the right time.

Over the years I’ve had a couple of chances to leave, and I always wanted to stay, but now it’s time to move on, try something different, and Livingston offered a chance to try and make that challenge work.

In every walk of life you can’t stay in the same place forever. I had been at Hamilton since I was nine years old, and I loved the club, loved everybody at the club, but for my own personal development, I needed to try something different.

I signed professional forms at Hamilton when I was at school, at 16, so I’ve been around Hamilton for more than half my life.

I feel like I know everyone in and around the stadium, which is nice, but I think there’s an aspect that I need to move on at some point, and this is probably the right time for me.

I’ve never really joined a new team or anything, so I’ve never had the situation of going into a new changing room, meeting new staff, new players, but it’s something I’m really excited about.

It’s something different, and I feel it’s the right time for me to try and do something new, and take on this challenge.

There is no definite plan. If something good comes, we can talk about it and see what’s best for me, for Villarreal and for everyone involved.
