Disney World has revealed that Disney Genie+ will undergo a name change, along with more updates beginning in late July 2024.
In 2021, Disney Genie+ officially debuted. The service has undergone changes over the years, but since its debut, it has allowed guests to skip the standby line for a paid cost. But now, Disney World has announced the biggest changes to the services yet, including how it can be used and even a major name change for what it will be called.
Disney Genie+ Becoming Lightning Lane Multi-Pass
One major point of confusion with Disney Genie+ has been the names of all the services. You have Disney Genie+, which allows you entry through Lightning Lane. Then you have individual Lightning Lanes, which are separate altogether. Now, that confusion will be cleared up. Beginning July 24, 2024, the Disney Genie+ service will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lane will now be known as Lightning Lane Single Pass.
There will also be some major updates coming for Lightning Lanes. The biggest will be a welcome change to fans of FastPass – the ability to make Lightning Lane plans ahead, choosing your experiences and times prior to purchasing so you know what you’re getting. Starting July 24, you’ll have the ability to book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days in one single day. Wondering how it will work? We’re breaking it down
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
When you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can make up to three Lightning Lane selections in a theme park ahead of your visit. You can choose available times as you make your selections. Then, on the day of your visit, you can check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make another selection.

Similar to the tiers in the previous FastPass+, this new system will utilize First Group and Second Group. Guests will be able select up to three Lightning Lane selections per day within two groups: one from the first grouping of our more popular attractions and two from the rest of the available attractions (at all parks minus Animal Kingdom).

Lightning Lane Single Pass
Lightning Lane Single Pass will stay pretty much the same, allowing you to secure a time for a ride. However, beginning July 24, you can make your purchase and plan in advance, so don’t need to wait until the day of.

Disneyland Genie+ Changes
Similarly, it has been announced that Genie+ will be changing names in Disneyland as well beginning July 24. However, the way guests purchase, select and redeem Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland Resort will remain the same.
Additionally, the free Genie+ service will remain as is on both coasts, offering the same free services as before.
How to Plan Ahead With New Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Guests who stay at a Disney World Resort hotel (or other select hotels with on-site benefits) can make Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance of their trip for their entire stay (up to fourteen days). All other guests can plan up to three days in advance. They can choose to purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass, or both.
Advance Lightning Lane Purchases for International Guests
It’s important to note that, at its debut, advance Lightning Lane purchases willnotbe available for international guests. Disney has shared that guests visiting from another country will not be able to purchase Lightning Lane passes until they arrive in the United States. Upon arrival in the U.S., if they are staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, they can plan and make purchases for the entire length of their stay.
