Video. Ticking sound coming from the big knob but the drum never turns.
Opening the door (door switch) makes the ticking sound end (turn up volume)
I donn't think door switch since the ticking of the big dial ends when the door is opened.
Belt is not broken.
Do you think motor or knob?

The belt that runs around the drum may have failed or more likely the tensioner. See how to pull the front off of it, there are usually some weird spring clips at the bottom that are hard to explain how to un-do.
John, we have the gas version of that series of Whirlpool dryer. They go to great lengths to hide the wiring diagram, if I'm remembering correctly they putin the spacebehindthe timer. A common failure on these is the thermal link that's installed in the dryer discharge pipe, you can see it with the back panel off the dryer. It's similar to a fuse and there to protect against a blocked vent. They do fail for other reasons andI think it couldkeep the motor and heating element from starting if it's open. The video may help, very inexpensive part as well.

Awesome. Before I saw yours I found thiswebsite with videoleading to thermal fuse.
I had nothing to test with but I had some black electric tape. I pulled the fuse and taped the two ends together with a little jumper wire. She fired up.

Now, where to find a thermal fuse Saturday 3:00p in small Sandusky, OH?

Assuming that it's not a big trip for you to get back there and that you're sure the vent is free / clean I think you're good to leave it jumped out, order one and return to install it once you have it. This would be a good time to get in the vent line with a shop vac and clean out the lint if you haven't already.

My M-I-L lives just 2 miles from me and she is just 1 miles from Menards. If this part is popular, I took a chance that Menards might have. If nothing else, my Menards is pretty good with recommendations.
They recommended me to a local repair guy. They said just call him, he sells parts out of his service van. I call. He says he's finishing his last on site repair for the day and will be back to the shop in 20 minutes. He gives me the address and I get there just 3 minutes before him. $9 bucks, cash, no receipt. The guy know his stuff and also tells me to vacuum out the whole vent area.
His shop is in an industrial area at the end of a dead end road. Picture taken from my car of old appliances in his yard.
I pulled the whole vent stack and oh, boy, a lot of lint.

Good job John! I try to pull ours out at least once a year and give it a good cleaning, dryer lint is unbelievably flammable.

Yes, it was a real awakening that I need to do similar to my own dryer.

For parts and trouble shooting tips I use repairclinic.com Their warehouse is only 15 miles away if Ineed parts right now, or they ship, too. A week ago I ordered a new lower rack for the dishwasher at 7:30 PM and it was sitting at the back door the next day at noon and I don't know how long it had been sitting there.
