Scott Steiner is the ring name of Scott Rechsteiner. A Michigan native, he wrestled at 190 lbs. at the University of Michigan where he was a 3x Big 10 runner-up. In 1986 as a senior, Steiner finished 6th at the NCAA Div I All-American Nationals. He went straight into pro wrestling after college and won the WWA World Heavyweight Championship a few months later. His older brother Rick was also a pro wrestler and the two wrestled together through the 1980s-‘90s and won several titles including the WWF Tag Team Championship. Steiner is a 4-time World Champ and the 8th WCW Triple Crown Champion. Steiner and his brother Rick were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022. He is married and has 2 children. As a side venture, Steiner and his wife ran a Shoney’s restaurant from 2016-2020 in Georgia. He has over a hundred thousand followers on social media. Steiner is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs about 275 lbs.

Steiner’s signature move is the Frankensteiner, a take-off from the Hurricánrana, named for wrestler Huricán Ramírez. Steiner also created the Steiner Screwdriver, a vertical suplex into a reverse piledriver.

Not only was Steiner’s brother a wrestler, but his nephew Bronson who wrestles under the name of Bron Breakker has also entered the sport. Steiner’s boys play basketball and football.

In the late 90s, Steiner was accused of taking steroids. He agreed to undergo a test if Triple H would do the same, but the WWE did not follow through on either test.

Dangerous Sport

In 2007, Steiner got kicked in the throat during a match in Puerto Rico. The diagnosis was a torn trachea. Given only hours to live, he was put into a coma so doctors could operate. He had to take a cruise ship home because flying would have collapsed his lung.

Volatile Temper

In 1998, Steiner was arrested for threatening and hitting a highway worker with his truck after being told an exit was closed. Convicted of several felonies, as a first time offender, instead of going to prison for up to 30 years, Steiner spent 10 days in jail, 7 years on probation, paid $25K in fines and did 200 hours of community service. He was also banned from the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony after Hulk Hogan’s wife reported that he threatened her husband’s life.
