  • Access to LCPS resources is blocked for students who are traveling outside the United States of America. In order to maintain access to LCPS resources, families can specify the travel start and end dates for the student in ParentVUE. Travel start and end dates must be entered for each child who will be traveling out of the country. It can take up to 24 hours for updates to take effect.

The student traveling out of the country will be marked absent (excused or unexcused) and will be withdrawn upon the accrual of 15 consecutive absences per LCPS attendance policies and VA state code 8VAC20-110-130.

  • Although the website is accessible over the internet, access to your students’ information is secured by a username and password. Parents can view information about their children only. They cannot access the records of other students. The application is hosted within LCPS – no third party vendor is hosting this.

  • The ParentVUE portal has a number of features designed to make the system safe and secure for maintaining student grade information. First, the URL for the parent portal begins with https://, rather than the standard http://. This indicates that the information contained on that page issecureandencrypted. This is similar to what you would see in the URL for online banking or any e-commerce site. Second, the ParentVUE portal provides read-only access. Using the parent portal would not allow anyone to change information, only to view the information on the page. Even a request to change phone numbers or email addresses is simply a request – until it is approved by school staff no changes are made in the database.

The primary method for keeping the ParentVUE portal secure, however, is to keep the password issued to you confidential, and toalways logout of the system.

  • The LCPS Student Information System (SIS) – ParentVUE or StudentVUE is a secure, web-based system accessible by staff, students, and parents. Student’s Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is protected via encryption when transmitted and stored.

Ensuring compliance with the laws of both the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Federal Government, the platform utilizes HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure), an internet communication protocol to protect the integrity and confidentiality of information when transmitted between the user's computer/device and the ParentVUE or StudentVUE website. That information is then placed in secure segregated databases (not on the website) and is fully encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption - including all backups.

  • If you see inaccurate demographic information, which you are unable to update in your ParentVUE account, contact the ParentVUE Support contact listed on the ParentVUE Channel on your child’s school website. TheGet Live Helppage has information on navigating to the ParentVUE Channel.

If the inaccurate information relates to the current school year grading/assignment information please contact your child’s teacher.

  • If you submit a change in ParentVUE to add yourself or the child’s other parent/guardian as an emergency contact, it will be denied by school staff. Emergency contacts must be someone other than a parent/guardian. Schools will always attempt to contact the parents/guardians first, and will call emergency contacts only when parents/guardians are not available.

  • Tap Student Info, then the Additional Information link at the bottom right of the app.

ParentVUE StudentVUE / ParentVUE FAQs (8)

  • At the beginning of each school year, parents are surveyed about opting-out their students out of contact by military recruiters (Military Recruiting), whether photos/videos of students may be included in any videotape, television, audio recording, or broadcast produced by LCPS for the public (Photo Release Opt), opting-out their students from receiving Family Life Education (Family Life Ed Opt-Out), and whether student directory information may be released to Non-School Officials (Non-school Official Student Contact Info Release). This information is stored in the Student Information System so that LCPS may adhere to student rights as outlined in theLCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.

Identification of newly-enrolled uniformed services-connected students (Military Connection) is a requirement based on legislation passed by the Virginia General Assembly in 2015 (HB 2373andSB 1354). While the legislation requires data collection for only newly-enrolled students, the Department of Education is encouraging school districts to collect this data for all students. This data, which does not identify individual students, is reported annually to the state.

Since this data is being collected and stored in the Student Information System, ParentVUE provides a logical method to update this information. Like any other request to update student information, the data in these fields must be reviewed and approved by school staff.

  • The code ofVA 23.1-405was amended in the2018 Legislative Sessionto prohibit the release of student address, phone or email address information to non-school officials without affirmative consent from the parent/guardian. More information on the definition of a school official may be found in theLCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.

  • Students have legal first names and chosen first names. Starting January 26, 2022, to support the implementation of Policy 8040, LCPS will begin using a student’s Chosen Name in all LCPS systems. The legal name will be maintained in Phoenix for printing Transcripts, feeds to VA IEP, Naviance, and other needs as they arise. If you and your child wish LCPS to continue to use the legal first name, no action is required on your part.

  • Families who want LCPS to use their student’s legal first name do not need to take any action.

If you want LCPS to use a name other than the student’s legal first name, use ParentVUE to request the update. Once updated, the Chosen Name will flow through to all of the applications students and teachers use, e.g. Phoenix, Schoology, Dream Box, Newsela, and many more. The Chosen Name will also show as the student’s first name in ParentVUE, StudentVUE, on Student ID cards, and reports.

    1. Log into ParentVUE and select a student.
    2. Open the Student Info menu.
    3. Click the Edit Information button.

  • Monitoring student attendancestarts with the teacher taking class attendance. This is a recordof which students were present/absent from class at the time the teacher took attendance. Attendance staff at the schools use this information, along with absence reports from parents, to determine which students are not present in school who do not yet have a reason for the absence. Families of these students are contacted via automatic emailnotifications. Additionally, Attendance staff send voice messages/emails to parents/guardians to determine the whereabouts of the student for safety purposes.

LCPS is sharing this information so you can be aware of your student’s participation in their classes. If you would like to opt-out of these automatic class-period attendance emails, please downloadOpt-in/out of ParentVUE Emails and Notifications (PDF)(English) (Spanish). The instructions on page 3, "ParentVUE Email Notifications," will assist you in making choices.

  • Period attendance is taken by teachers during the instructional block. If the teacher did not see the student, they were marked absent from class. This does not mean the student is marked absent from school, simply not in attendance for that class. Teachers marking students absent from class helps schools and families know who has missed educational content and activities.

  • The teacher may have missed seeing the student, or the student may have arrived tardy to class and the teacher did not want to interrupt instruction to change the code. We appreciate your patience while our teachers juggle the demands of distance learning. If you would like to request the period attendance code be updated, please send an email to your student’s teacher.

  • Teachers post that the student was not present in class at the time attendance was taken. This class-period attendance code is shown in ParentVUE as Excused. Attendance staff, using guidelines from the school Principal, review the reason for absence provided by the parent to determine whether the Daily Attendance code posted for the student should be an excused or unexcused absence. Daily Attendance is reviewed for truancy issues and is reported to the state as an aggregate value for the school and division. Class-period attendance data helps schools and families know who has missed educational content and activities.

  • When reviewing the Graduation Status tracker in ParentVUE and StudentVUE, please keep in mind that the Progress bar for each subject area only counts the number of credits earned and/or in progress. For subjects where students must meet specific requirements, like foreign language or social science, please review the graduation requirements with your child’s counselor or in the Program of Studies. For example, to earn an Advanced Studies diploma, a student may earn three credits in one language OR two credits in two different languages. The Graduation Status tracker will display the language requirement being met once the student has completed two credits in one language and is currently taking the first credit in the second language. LCPS is working with the vendor to include this level of detail in ParentVUE and StudentVUE.

View the Graduation Status tracker in ParentVUE and StudentVUE by selecting the Course History menu.

  • For secondary students, the numeric grade in your child’s Grade Book is calculated based on the grading categories and weights for those categories.
